Dear Charles

Please find enclosed a copy of representations I have received from Local Education Authority schools in Scarborough and Whitby. On 6 May I wrote to 42 Primary Schools and 8 Secondary Schools asking for their comments on the financial situation at their school [copy enclosed]. Despite prompting all schools on 16 May for a response, I have only received 17 replies.

At the risk of not demanding you help micro manage the financial difficulties of the schools who have responded, I wondered if you would consider meeting myself and a primary and secondary head teacher after the Whit recess to discuss their difficulties.

Alternatively, if he is available, it may help if David Milliband could visit Scarborough & Whitby after the Whit recess to meet with head teachers and an appropriate representative from the Local Education Authority. Hopefully this will assist schools in mapping out both short and long term solutions to the financial difficulties they are facing.

Please contact Clare Billing at the above address to confirm which option you prefer and to agree a date. I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely
